The opening number of the show. The director of the show suggested to use Pepper Land as the main background. In this case all the graphics are 100% based on the movie Yellow Submarine

This piece was very much inspired in the look and feel of the Disney movie The Aristocats.

In the play, this song is performed by a character that as the lyrics say, wants to be a paperback writer. I really like the ending part with the diagonal shadows and the shiny trophies. A lot of loop expressions and time remapping were used here.

This was a very sentimental concept and also very technical piece. In the first section, a piano reveals an artwork made by the Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz Diez. This artwork represents a strong farewell feeling for most of Venezuelan emigrants. I had to recreate the artwork in Illustrator in order to adapt it to the screen ratio. In the section two, the cases fade out as they approach the left side of the screen, this is controlled by a gradient map from black to white.

A cartoony look using a lot of vector images. Except for the "grassy hills", which were created in Cinema 4D

This piece was very much inspired in Fantasia by Disney. The animation is driven directly by the keyframes values generated by the music.

This play would not be complete without the classic Yellow Submarine crossing the screens at some point.

Disney and Pixar movies have a big influence in my work. The idea of splitting the screen in two came out from the Pixar short film Night and Day.

This song is the first one I tried to learn in guitar when I was 13 years old. I knew it was difficult to play for my experience but I kept trying until I mastered it. I wanted this piece to just a special.
"LUCY EN EL CIELO CON DIAMANTES"
MUSICAL PLAY
This project consisted in the creation of 17 different lyric videos projected as part of a musical play called “Lucy en el Cielo con Diamantes” (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds), presented in Venezuela in mid 2016. These videos were created with the purpose of displaying a real time translation of the song lyrics as the majority of the audience did not speak English.
The biggest challenge during this project was not only the amount of clips that needed to be done; it was that absolutely all the material was created while I was in Asia and the director, producers and my design partner were in Venezuela. This made Skype, Whatsapp and a good internet connection even more important than having After Effects and Photoshop.
Some of the videos were created without any storyboard whatsoever, whereas others had a little more complex ideas that needed to be sketched before being developed. Luckily, I am a huge Beatles fan and this made the job a lot easier to conceive.
The time difference and being constantly on the move turned this project into a really interesting experience. I worked from hotel rooms, airports, airplanes, trains, ferries and coffee shops to get the work done without letting the distance be an obstacle.
